This year, the ESMAC Board and the ESMAC 2024 Local Organisers in Oslo have agreed to donate the proceeds from the Charity Run to FUNKIS Snowboard Club. We are pleased to direct our targeted help through our ESMAC network to where it is needed most.
Funkis Snowboard Club was established by enthusiasts in the snowboarding community in 2012. The main goal back then, and still today, is to make snowboarding accessible for people with physical disabilities who want to participate. This includes those with mobility, visual, or hearing impairments. Snowboarding is often an accessible activity for people with mobility challenges, such as those missing a limb, having cerebral palsy, or hemiplegia. Snowboarding helps to train balance, coordination, strength, and mobility. The focus of the weekly training sessions is snowboarding, play, and fun. On a broader scale, we observe that there are generally few people with disabilities who are active in Norwegian ski resorts and snowboard clubs, a situation FUNKIS aims to change! FUNKIS seeks to raise awareness of their offerings and create an environment that fosters a sense of mastery, belonging, confidence, and overall improved quality of life. The goal is to involve children and adults with physical disabilities in snowboarding while also inspiring other snowboard clubs in Norway to include EVERYONE in the snowboarding community.
ESMAC 2024 Charity Run will support the FUNKIS Snowboard Club, a charity that supports and motivates children with disabilities to participate in winter sport activities.
You can also donate without running!
